Are there exemptions to the English test?

There are three categories of naturalization applicants who are exempt from the English language test:

  • Age 50 and older and lived in the United States as a green card holder for at least 20 years
  • Age 55 and older and lived in the United States as a green card holder for at least 15 years
  • Age 65 and older and lived in the United States as a green card holder for at least 20 years
