U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has a few different tools you can use online, as well as the National Contact Center, which serves as its central customer service center:
- Create a USCIS Online Account
To create an online account on USCIS.gov, please follow these instructions. Creating an account will allow USCIS to send you email updates on your application after the agency has provided your "receipt numbers" (official codes from USCIS confirming that they've received your application package). - Check Processing Times
Find out the processing times of various types of applications or petitions at different locations. - Check Your Case Status
Enter the receipt number on your USCIS receipt notices to stay updated on the status of your application. Please keep in mind that though this is usually one of the quickest, most effective ways to track your application, occasionally the site is not updated as it should be. - To Speak to a USCIS representative
If you need to talk to a representative you can call the USCIS Contact Center at 1-800-375-5283 to access automated information through an interactive menu 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can get live help from a USCIS representative Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern, except on federal holidays. You will need to have your receipt numbers available so they can verify your identity.
